What is Vision Therapy?

Also known as visual rehabilitation, eye training or vision training is a highly successful treatment for vision problems. Often people believe that 20/20 eyesight means they could not have vision problems. Eyesight is merely one assessment of the visual system.

More Than 20/20 Vision

Often people believe that 20/20 eyesight means they could not have vision problems. Eyesight is merely one assessment of the visual system. People with 20/20 eyesight could have eye movement disorders, double vision, eye strain and fatigue, suppression of binocular vision, intermittent blurred vision, or dizziness.  Undetected binocular (two-eyed) vision problems or visual processing disorders can cause difficulties with reading fluency, speed, endurance and comprehension, standardized testing or timed tests, homework completion, sports performance and sports vision training and much more.

“It may be common sense that poor vision interferes with a child’s ability to learn. But what is lesser known is that vision problems are the fourth most prevalent class of disability in the United States and one of the most prevalent conditions in childhood. This is an extremely important statistic considering that 80 percent of what children learn comes through their visual processing of information and that many children – nearly two in three according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – enter school without ever having had a vision screening.”
